The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Full Cheek Elevator Snaffle with Straight Bar 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with full cheek elevator as a cheekpiece. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been designed so that surface rust develops upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information

Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Full Cheek Elevator Snaffle
The full cheek elevator snaffle combines the effect of an elevator bit and a full cheek bit. The full cheek bit laterally restricts the horse and provides stability, also preventing the bit rings from slipping through. The elevator bit is connected to the bridle via elevator cheekpieces that are pulled through the bit rings. This achieves a leveraged action depending on the degree of rein engagement.
