The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit, single-jointed, is made of Sweet Iron and features gag cheeks as a side piece. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to create surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This rust tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
single-jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very widely used.
Side piece
Gag Bit
The gag bit combines the effect of a gag bit and a full cheek bit. The full cheek bit laterally restricts the horse and gives it stability, and it also prevents the bit rings from sliding through. The gag bit is connected to the bridle via gag cheek pieces, which are pulled through the bit rings. This achieves a leveraged action depending on the degree of rein uptake.
