The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Draw Gag Snaffle Single Jointed Locked 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features draw gag cheeks as side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The bit has a width of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for thoroughbreds.

Bit thickness

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's lip area. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Manufacturer information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality controlled.

Mouthpiece

Locked

The locked mouthpiece is similar to a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.

Side piece

Draw Gag Snaffle

The draw gag snaffle is a combination of a draw gag and a full cheek snaffle. The full cheek snaffle limits the horse laterally and provides stability, and it also prevents the bit rings from slipping through. The gag snaffle is connected to the bridle via draw cheekpieces that are pulled through the bit rings. This achieves a levered action depending on the degree of rein uptake.
