The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit Double Jointed with Copper Rings is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with gag cheeks as side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information

Mouthpiece
Double Jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two joints, is shaped more towards the mouth, and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheek Piece
Gag Bit
The gag bit is a combination of a gag snaffle and a full cheek bit. The full cheek bit laterally guides the horse and provides stability, and also prevents the bit rings from sliding through. The gag bit is connected to the bridle via gag cheek pieces, which are pulled through the bit rings. This results in a leveraged action depending on the degree of rein uptake.
