The Trust Sweet Iron Gag Bit, double-jointed with copper rings 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with gag cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed. The mouthpiece has a width of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's lip area. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust develops when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double-jointed
Double-jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double-jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single-jointed bits.
Cheekpiece
Gag Bit
The gag bit is a combination of a gag snaffle and a full cheek snaffle. The full cheek snaffle laterally restricts the horse and gives it stability, and also prevents the bit rings from slipping through. The gag snaffle is connected to the bridle via gag cheekpieces, which are pulled through the bit rings. This achieves a leveraged action depending on the degree of rein uptake.
