The Trust Equestrian Team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron 3-Ring Snaffle straight bar 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 3-Ring Snaffle straight bar 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features 3-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust develops when exposed to air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Straight bar bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek piece
3-Ring
The 3-ring bit combines effective lateral restriction, leverage, and lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. When attached to the bottom ring, the engaging rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
