The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 3-Ring Snaffle Single Jointed Locked 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 3-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The mouthpiece has a width of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece is similar to a single jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheek piece
3-Ring
The three-ring bit combines effective lateral limitation, leverage, and lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the rein applies the effect of a short lever to the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to a leverage action.
