The Trust Sweet Iron 3-Ring Double Jointed Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 3-ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a size of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually well suited for sporty thoroughbreds.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. So it is rather a medium-strength mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is rather 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold bloods and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
