The Trust Sweet Iron Bit, 2.5 Rings, Single-Jointed 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 3-ring shanks. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed. The bit has a size of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point, making it a medium-strong mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been designed so that surface rust develops when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its spirit of innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.

Mouthpiece

Single-jointed

A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very common.

Shank

3-Ring

The three-ring bit combines effective lateral restriction, leverage, and a lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the rein exerts the action of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
