The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle with Waterford Link Mouthpiece is made of Sweet Iron and features 3-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multi-jointed design.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its widest point, making it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

A multi-jointed or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that molds to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is gentle and friendly, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.

The three-ring bit combines effective lateral restriction, leverage, and lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various rein attachment options.
