Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle Waterford Link Mouthpiece 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle Waterford Link Mouthpiece 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 3-ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multi-jointed. The bit has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the horse's lips. It is therefore rather a thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Multi-jointed/Waterford
A multi-jointed or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is soft and kind, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.
Cheekpiece
3-ring
The three-ring bit combines effective lateral limitation, leverage, and lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. Attached in the lower ring, the taking rein exerts the action of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
