The Trust Equestrian bit range provides gentle yet effective impulses for improved communication between rider and horse. Today, we'd like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle French Bar 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle French Bar 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features 3-ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its widest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is typically between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This rust tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. This makes horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and rigorously controlled for quality.
Mouthpiece
Bar bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
3-Ring
The three-ring bit combines effective lateral restriction, leverage, and lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the taking rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
