Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and manufactured from the most suitable materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Bit Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Bit Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 3-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, which means a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a size of 14.5 centimeters. The mouthpiece size 14.5cm is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Dr. Bristol
The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It acts mainly on the tongue with a sharp effect due to the straight, angled plate and with a lesser angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that lean on the hand.
Cheek piece
3-Ring
The three-ring bit combines an effective lateral limitation, leverage, and lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. If the rein is attached to the lower ring, the pulling rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
