The Trust Equestrian bit range provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle Double Broken with Copper Rings 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle Double Broken with Copper Rings 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 3-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double jointed
The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, bars and corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars with a narrow lower jaw. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheek Piece
3-ring
The three-ring bit combines effective lateral limitation, leverage and uplifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. Attached to the lower ring, the taking rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
