The bit Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Snaffle Bit, Double Jointed with Copper Rings, 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features 3-ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.

Bit thickness

The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's labial area. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed and strictly quality-controlled by Trust's technical teams.

Mouthpiece

double jointed

The double-jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single-jointed bit, this bit applies more pressure to the tongue.

Cheekpiece

3-Ring

The three-ring bit combines effective lateral limitation, leverage, and poll pressure in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. When attached to the bottom ring, the taking rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
