The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Bit High Port from the Trust Equestrian range:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Bit High Port is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 2.5-ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a ported bar.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Ported Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A ported bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
2.5-Ring
Combines effective lateral guidance, leverage, and upward action in one bit, while usually being somewhat milder than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. Attached in the lower ring, the taking rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit.
