The Trust Equestrian bit range provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle with French Link 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle with French Link 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 2.5 ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Straight bar bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek piece
2.5-Ring
Combines an effective lateral limitation, leverage and lifting action in one bit, while usually being somewhat softer than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various attachment options for the reins. When buckled in the lower ring, the engaging rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit.
