The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Flat Bar 16mm 14.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Flat Bar 16mm 14.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and features 2.5 ring sidepieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Bar bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Sidepiece
2.5-Ring
A 2.5-ring bit allows flexible attachment of the reins, achieving different levels of leverage. The lower the reins are attached, the greater the effect on the bit and the horse's poll. With the 2.5-ring bit, the lower ring is recessed into the main ring.
