The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Flat Bar 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Flat Bar 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features 2.5 Ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally suitable for sporty thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This rust tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production, making the Sweet Iron bits well accepted by horses.

Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
2.5-Ring
Combines effective lateral guidance, leverage, and lifting action in one bit, while usually being somewhat milder than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various attachment options for the reins. When attached to the lower ring, the rein applies the effect of a short lever to the bit.
