The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle Single Jointed Blocking 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle Single Jointed Blocking 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 2.5 Ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when rein pressure is applied. The bit has a width of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for sporting thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked (blocking) mouthpiece is similar to a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheek Piece
2.5-Ring
A 2.5-ring bit allows for flexible rein attachment, achieving different leverage effects. The deeper the reins are attached, the greater the effect on the bit and the horse's poll. In the 2.5-ring bit, the lower ring is recessed into the main ring.
