The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and function. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Snaffle Single Jointed 16mm 14.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Snaffle Single Jointed 16mm 14.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and features 2.5 Ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Single Jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very widely used.
Cheek Piece
2.5-Ring
Combines effective lateral guidance, leverage, and lifting action in one bit, while usually being somewhat softer than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is determined by the different ways the reins can be attached. When attached to the lower ring, the pulling rein exerts the action of a short lever on the bit.
