The Trust Equestrian bit range provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle Double Jointed with Copper Rings from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle Double Jointed with Copper Rings is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 2.5-ring side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Double Jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars with a narrow lower jaw. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Side Piece
2.5-Ring
A 2.5-ring bit allows for flexible rein attachment, which achieves varying degrees of leverage. The deeper the reins are attached, the greater the effect on the bit and poll of the horse. With the 2.5-ring bit, the lower ring is recessed into the main ring.
