The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle Double Jointed with Copper Rings 16mm 11.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and features 2.5-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a width of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for sporty thoroughbreds.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed and strictly quality-controlled by Trust's technical teams.

Mouthpiece

Double Jointed

The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Cheek Piece

2.5-Ring

Combines effective lateral restriction, leverage, and lifting action in one bit, while usually being somewhat softer than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various ways of attaching the reins. When attached to the lower ring, the pulling rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit.
