The Trust Bit Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Double Jointed is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 2.5 ring side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather medium-strength mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. The bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Sidepiece
2.5-Ring
Combines effective lateral guidance, leverage, and poll pressure in one bit, while usually being somewhat softer than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the giving rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit.
