Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle Double Jointed 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Snaffle Double Jointed 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 2.5-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.

Bit Thickness

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed and strictly quality-controlled by Trust's technical teams.

Mouthpiece

Double jointed

The double-jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth, and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single-jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Cheek Piece

2.5-Ring

Combines effective lateral guidance, leverage, and lifting action in one bit, while usually being somewhat softer than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various attachment options for the reins. When buckled into the lower ring, the engaging rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit.
