The Trust Sweet Iron 2.5-Ring Olive Head Double-Jointed Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 2.5 ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double-jointed
The double-jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. Compared to a single-jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheekpiece
2.5-Ring
A 2.5-ring bit allows for flexible rein attachment, achieving different leverage effects. The lower the reins are attached, the greater the effect on the bit and poll of the horse. With the 2.5-ring bit, the lower ring is integrated into the main ring.
