The Trust Pelham Leather Straight Bar Bit is made of leather and equipped with Pelham side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.

Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

The acceptance of leather bits is extraordinarily high. Practically every horse "likes" it! Leather is a pure natural product, it stimulates chewing activity and also salivation. The bit glides easily in the mouth and thus increases well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.

Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually readily accept a leather bit and can learn to approach the bit confidently again.

Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
