Product description
Trust Bit Pelham Leather Bar Straight 20mm 12.5
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draught horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Pelham Leather Bar Straight 20mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Pelham Leather Bar Straight 20mm 12.5 is made of leather and equipped with Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a size of 12.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece size 12.5cm is normally ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Cheekpiece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angulation can be achieved in the mouth. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that need clear action in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Material
Leather
The acceptance of leather bits is extraordinarily high. Practically every horse "likes" it! Leather is a pure natural product; it stimulates chewing and salivation. The bit slides easily in the mouth, thus increasing well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely bridle-sour usually readily accept a leather bit and can relearn to approach the bit with confidence.
Leather care instructions: The mouthpiece should be soaked in cooking oil for a few hours before first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
