The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides gentle yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Leather Bar Bradoon Snaffle Straight 20mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Leather Bar Bradoon Snaffle Straight 20mm 14.5 is made of leather and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 14.5 centimeters. The mouthpiece size of 14.5cm is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical characteristics of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Leather
Leather as a bit material is very readily accepted by many horses. Almost every horse likes the softness and taste of leather. Since leather is a natural product, it stimulates salivation and chewing activity. The bit slides easily in the mouth, thereby increasing comfort. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely bit-shy usually readily accept a leather bit and can learn to approach the bit confidently again.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for several hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.

Mouthpiece
Bar bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to one centimeter larger than the weymouth bit, as the weymouth bit is a bar and the bradoon is jointed.
