Product description
Trust Bit Leather Straight Bar Bradoon Snaffle Bit 20mm 12.5
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Leather Bar Bradoon Snaffle Bit Straight 20mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Leather Bar Bradoon Snaffle Bit Straight 20mm 12.5 is made of leather and equipped with smaller side parts as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 12.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece size 12.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.

Bradoon
A bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffle bits lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), these are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed. Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Material
Leather
Leather as a bit material is very well accepted by many horses. Practically every horse "likes the taste" of it! Leather is a pure natural product, it stimulates chewing activity and saliva flow. The bit slides easily in the mouth and thus increases well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually accept a leather bit gladly and can learn to approach the bit confidently again.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
