The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Leather Bar Bradoon Water snaffle straight 20mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Leather Bar Bradoon Water snaffle straight 20mm 11.5 is made of leather and features smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for sporty thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shires horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Leather
The acceptance of leather bits is exceptionally high. Almost every horse likes the softness and taste of leather. Since leather is a natural product, it stimulates salivation and chewing activity. The bit glides easily in the mouth and thus increases well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely bit-shy usually readily accept a leather bit and can relearn a trusting approach to the bit.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for several hours before first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
Manufacturer information

Mouthpiece
Bar bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a bar and the bradoon is jointed.
