The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and function. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Leather Bar Swivel Bit Straight 20mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Leather Bar Swivel Bit Straight 20mm 12.5 is made of leather and equipped with so-called universal rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a width of 12.5 centimeters. A mouthpiece size of 12.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its widest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies usually 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and especially large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shires Horses usually 18mm and larger.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Leather
Leather as a bit material is very readily accepted by many horses. Virtually every horse "likes" it! As leather is a natural product, it stimulates salivation and chewing activity. The bit slides easily in the mouth, thereby increasing well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually readily accept a leather bit and can relearn a confident approach to the bit.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should be soaked in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Bar bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Universal/Swivel
The universal bit, also known as Beval or Swivel, usually has rings as cheekpieces with internal eyes at the top and bottom. These allow for additional attachment of cheekpieces and reins, making the bit very flexible. With the Beval, the mouthpiece is attached to a central axis of the ring.
