The bit assortment from Trust Equestrian offers soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Leather Bar Liverpool Bit 2-Slots Straight 20mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Leather Bar Liverpool Bit 2-Slots Straight 20mm 13.5 is made of leather and equipped with driving curb cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually well-suited for a normal warmblood.

Bit Thickness

The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissure. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit Material

Leather

The acceptance of leather bits is extraordinarily high. Almost every horse likes the softness and taste of leather. Leather is a pure natural product; it stimulates chewing and salivation. The bit glides easily in the mouth, thereby increasing well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.

Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely bit-shy usually accept a leather bit gladly and can relearn a trusting approach to the bit.

Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.

Mouthpiece

Straight Bar Bits

A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.

Cheekpiece

Driving Curbs

Driving curbs like the Trust Leather Bar Liverpool Bit 2-Slots Straight 20mm 13.5 are specially suited for the needs of driving horses. There are several types of driving curbs.

Liverpool Curb Bit The Liverpool curb bit is a classic driving bit and offers several options for rein attachment. The Liverpool curb bit is usually available with short or long shanks. It is also possible to tilt the angle of the tongue arch forward. This forward inclination relieves pressure on the bars and acts more on the tongue.

Post Curb Bit The Post curb bit is also a classic driving curb and commonly used for agricultural harnessing. It offers two options for rein attachment. Attaching to the lower ring creates a leverage effect. When attached to the upper ring, this leverage effect is absent, and the bit becomes a snaffle bit.
