The Trust Bit Leather Straight Bar Kimblehook 20mm 11.5 is made of leather and equipped with Kimblewick shanks. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a size of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.

Bit thickness

The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's cheek area. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold bloods, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit material

Leather

The acceptance of leather bits is extraordinarily high. Almost every horse likes the softness and taste of leather. Leather is a pure natural product, it stimulates chewing activity and also salivation. The bit slides easily in the mouth and thus increases well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.

Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually accept a leather bit gladly and can re-learn to approach the bit confidently.

Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry to you. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.

Manufacturer information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.

Mouthpiece

Straight Bar Bits

A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.

Shank

Kimblewick

The Kimblewick combines a leverage action on the lower jaw, a pressure development on the poll, and a change in the position of the bit in the horse's mouth. The Kimblewick allows for three different ways of attaching the reins, which enables a well-dosed use of the bit. The stable shanks ensure a quiet position in the mouth.
