The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and effectiveness. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Leather Bar D-Ring Straight 20mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Leather Bar D-Ring Straight 20mm 14.5 is made of leather and features D-shaped rings as cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a width of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at its thickest point in the horse's commissures. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Leather
Leather as a bit material is very well accepted by many horses. Virtually every horse "likes the taste" of it! As leather is a natural product, it stimulates salivation and chewing activity. The bit slides easily in the mouth, thereby increasing comfort. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are absolutely bit-shy usually readily accept a leather bit and can relearn to confidently approach the bit.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek Piece
D-Ring
Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suitable for young horses who are still a little inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheek pieces ensure a calm and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and steady rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
