The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Leather Bar D-Ring Straight 20mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Leather Bar D-Ring Straight 20mm 13.5 is made of leather and equipped with D-shaped rings as cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. The 13.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is rather between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Leather
Leather as a bit material is very readily accepted by many horses. Almost every horse likes the softness and taste of leather. Leather is a pure natural product; it stimulates chewing activity and also salivation. The bit glides easily in the mouth and thus increases well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually accept a leather bit gladly and can relearn a trusting approach to the bit.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality controlled.
Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
D-Ring
Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suitable for young horses who are still somewhat inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheekpieces ensure a quiet and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral support is provided. Good and calm rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
