Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Leather Bar Straight Full Cheek Bit 20mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Leather Bar Straight Full Cheek Bit 20mm 14.5 is made of leather and features full cheeks as side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a size of 14.5 centimeters. The 14.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. So it is rather a thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Leather
Leather as a bit material is very readily accepted by many horses. Practically every horse "likes the taste" of it! Leather is a pure natural product; it stimulates chewing and salivation. The bit glides easily in the mouth, thus increasing well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually accept a leather bit readily and can relearn to confidently approach the bit.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should be soaked in cooking oil for a few hours before first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
Manufacturer information

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Sidepiece
Full Cheek Bit with Draw Reins
The full cheek bit with draw reins is a combination of a gag bit and a full cheek bit. The full cheek bit laterally limits the horse and gives it stability, and also prevents the bit rings from slipping through. The gag bit is connected to the bridle via gag cheekpieces, which are pulled through the bit rings. This results in a leveraged action depending on the degree of rein engagement.
