The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Leather Straight Bar 2.5-Ring Snaffle 20mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Leather Straight Bar 2.5-Ring Snaffle 20mm 13.5 is made of leather and equipped with 2.5 ring sidepieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The bit has a width of 13.5 centimeters. The mouthpiece size of 13.5cm is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Leather
The acceptance of leather bits is exceptionally high. Practically every horse "likes" it! Since leather is a natural product, it stimulates salivation and chewing activity. The bit glides easily in the mouth, thereby increasing well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are absolutely averse to bits usually readily accept a leather bit and can relearn a trusting approach to the bit.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.

Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Sidepiece
2.5-Ring
Combines effective lateral restriction, leverage, and lift in one bit, while usually being somewhat softer than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the different rein attachment options. When the rein is attached to the lower ring, the taking rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit.
