The Trust Bit Leather Straight Bar 2.5-Ring Eggbutt Snaffle 20mm 13.5cm is made of leather and features 2.5 ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Leather
The acceptance of leather bits is extraordinarily high. Almost every horse likes the softness and taste of leather. Since leather is a natural product, it stimulates salivation and chewing activity. The bit glides easily in the mouth, thereby increasing well-being. Leather mouthpieces are generally vegetable tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually accept a leather bit gladly and can learn to approach the bit confidently again.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.

Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
2.5-Ring
Combines effective lateral restriction, leverage, and lifting action in one bit, usually being somewhat softer than a 3-ring bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the taking rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit.
