The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and function. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Inno Sense Pelham Port Mouthpiece Hard 20mm 12.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Inno Sense Pelham Port Mouthpiece Hard 20mm 12.5 bit is made of plastic and features Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar. The hardness of the mouthpiece material is rather hard, almost rigid. The mouthpiece has a width of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for sporting thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Plastic
Food-grade plastic is used for bits, which means no plasticizers are used and it is well tolerated by horses. The particularly smooth texture ensures that the bit can glide easily in the mouth, even with little saliva production.

Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angulation can be achieved in the mouth. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that need clear action in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
