The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Curbgag with Leather Bar Straight 20mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a bit more detail:
The Trust Bit Curbgag with Leather Bar Straight 20mm 12.5 is made of leather and equipped with so-called Curbgag rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more in the range of 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Leather
The acceptance of leather bits is extraordinarily high. Almost every horse likes the softness and taste of leather. Since leather is a natural product, it stimulates salivation and chewing activity. The bit slides easily in the mouth and thus increases well-being. Leather mouthpieces are usually vegetable-tanned and hand-stitched.
Our leather mouthpiece is particularly suitable for young and extremely sensitive horses. Even horses that are completely resistant to bits usually readily accept a leather bit and can relearn to approach the bit confidently.
Care instructions for leather: The mouthpiece should soak in cooking oil for a few hours before the first use. Repeat this process as soon as the leather appears dry. Before each use, you should briefly soak it in clear water and clean it thoroughly after use, as saliva can erode the leather.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek piece
Curbgag
The combination bit, also known as a Curbgag, ensures optimal pressure distribution on the lower jaw and mouth and is very well accepted by the horse. The second rein acts like a curb chain, which can be taken up and released as needed. This bit is very well suited for particularly strong and forward-moving horses.
