The Stübben STEELtec development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today we would like to present the Stübben STEELtec Waterford Running Gag 16 mm 14 cm 13.5 cm bit from the Stübben STEELtec range in more detail:
The Stübben STEELtec Waterford Running Gag 16 mm 14 cm 13.5 cm bit is made of stainless steel and features Running Gag rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multi-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Stainless steel
The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel is available in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.
To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium and nickel.
Manufacturer information
Mouthpiece
Multi-jointed/Waterford
A multi-jointed or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, so the rider maintains proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is soft and kind, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.
Side piece
Running Gags
The running gag can be ridden with two reins. The second rein, with increased pressure, causes the bit to tilt and pull up in the corner of the mouth. This means an increased effect. Very good for horses that tend to lean on the bit. The bit also supports the horse's natural elevation.
