Product description
Stübben STEELtec Waterford Pelham 16 mm | 5 cm | 13.5 cm
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Stübben STEELtec bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. We would like to introduce you to the Stübben STEELtec Waterford Pelham 16 mm | 5 cm | 13.5 cm bit from the Stübben STEELtec range in more detail today:

Shank
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When taking up the reins, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angulation in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require significant influence in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
Mouthpiece
Multi-joint/Waterford
A multi-joint or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is gentle and kind, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.
Bit Material
Stainless Steel
The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.
To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.
