Stübben STEELtec bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Stübben STEELtec Weymouth bit for jumping from the Stübben STEELtec range:
The Stübben STEELtec Weymouth bit for jumping is made of stainless steel and equipped with Weymouth bit shanks for jumping. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar with a port.
Bit thickness
The bit is 13mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Stainless steel
The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.
To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.
Manufacturer information
Mouthpiece
Straight bar with port
The straight bar with a port provides space for the tongue, thus reducing pressure on the center of the horse's tongue. More tongue freedom is ideal for horses with sensitive tongues or horses that tend to stick their tongues out. This bit is not suitable for inexperienced riders.
Shank
Weymouth bit for jumping
The Weymouth bit for jumping combines leverage on the lower jaw, pressure distribution on the poll, and a change in the bit's position in the horse's mouth. The Weymouth bit allows for three different attachment options, enabling a precisely dosed use of the bit. The solid shanks are somewhat heavier, which ensures a more stable position in the horse's mouth.
