The Stübben STEELtec Pelham rubber single-jointed bit is made of rubber and equipped with Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed.

The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When taking up the reins, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty flexing at the poll, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require significant influence in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.

A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double-jointed mouthpiece.

Rubber

Rubber as a bit material is generally somewhat softer than synthetic. Rubber bits are usually very flexible and soft. Due to the slightly rougher surface structure, a so-called eraser effect can occur in horses with insufficient saliva production, where the rubber starts to rub slightly in the mouth.
