  • Bit thickness: 14mm

The Sprenger development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Weymouth Bridoon Sensogan Single-Jointed 14mm bit from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger Weymouth Bridoon Sensogan Single-Jointed 14mm bit is made of Sensogan and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 14 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Sensogan

The Sensogan material mix consists of copper, manganese, and zinc. The trace element manganese has a positive effect on the horse's metabolism and stress reduction. The combination of copper and manganese results in a controlled oxidation process that promotes chewing activity. Sprenger's Sensogan bits are characterized by high compatibility.

Manufacturer Information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether it's boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and marine sports industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Single-jointed

A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece and very common.

Cheekpiece

Weymouth Bridoon

The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single-jointed and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit has a solid bar and the bridoon is jointed.
