In a nutshell

  • Cheekpiece: Weymouth Bradoon
  • Mouthpiece: single-jointed
  • Hardness:
  • Bit thickness: 16mm
  • Size: cm

The Sprenger team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of their bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Weymouth Bradoon Single-Jointed Sensogan 16mm bit from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger Weymouth Bradoon Single-Jointed Sensogan 16mm bit is made of Sensogan and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed.

Bit thickness

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather medium-strength mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit material

Sensogan Copper, manganese, and zinc are the components of Sprenger's Sensogan alloy. The trace element manganese has a positive effect on the horse's metabolism and stress reduction. The combination of copper and manganese results in a controlled oxidation process that promotes chewing activity. Sprenger's Sensogan bits are characterized by high compatibility.

Manufacturer information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, dog, and marine sports industries. The company stands for high-quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

single-jointed

The single-jointed mouthpiece has a hinge in the middle, which applies less pressure to the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily applies pressure to the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very widely used.

Cheekpiece

Weymouth Bradoon

The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffle bits lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit has a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
