Product description

Sprenger Weymouth Bridoon, Double Jointed Stainless Steel 14mm

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 14 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather medium-strength mouthpiece.

Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.

Weymouth bridoons for double bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

The Sprenger development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Weymouth Bridoon, double jointed stainless steel 14mm from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger Weymouth Bridoon, double jointed stainless steel 14mm bit is made of stainless steel and features smaller side pieces as a bridoon for double bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed.

double jointed

A double-jointed mouthpiece is a very common mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth, and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single-jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue. Weymouth Bridoon

The Weymouth bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The Weymouth bridoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a curb bit and the bridoon is jointed.

Bit Material

Stainless Steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.
