Product description

Sprenger Aurigan Bradoon, single jointed, 14mm

The bit is 14mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-strength mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Sprenger bits are selected with the greatest care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to present the Sprenger Aurigan Bradoon, single jointed, 14mm from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger Aurigan Bradoon, single jointed, 14mm is made of Aurigan and features smaller side pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed.

single jointed

A single-jointed bit has a hinge point, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double-jointed mouthpiece. Bradoon

The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed.

Bit material

Aurigan

Aurigan consists of 85% copper, silicon, and zinc. To keep copper nickel-free, more complex work steps are necessary, which make the material more expensive, which is why Sprenger Aurigan bits are higher priced than bits made of stainless steel or Argentan.
