The Sprenger team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger TURNADO Loose Ring Snaffle Bit Stainless Steel Rustproof Single Jointed 14mm from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger TURNADO Loose Ring Snaffle Bit Stainless Steel Rustproof Single Jointed 14mm is made of stainless steel and equipped with loose ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed.

Bit thickness

The bit is 14mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissures. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit material

Stainless steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.

Manufacturer information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether it's boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and boating industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Single jointed

The single jointed mouthpiece has a hinge in the middle, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double jointed mouthpiece. A single jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very widely used.

Cheekpiece

Loose ring snaffle

The loose ring snaffle has two free-moving rings at each end. A movable ring means greater mobility of the bit in the mouth. The Sprenger TURNADO Loose Ring Snaffle Bit Stainless Steel Rustproof Single Jointed 14mm is therefore ideal for beginners and horses that are somewhat inactive in the mouth.
